"SE" is it needed? "la mujer se ha ido a dormir"

and
la mujer se ha ido a dormir
la mujer ha ido a dormir

I've read a little on reflexive verbs but are they needed in these sentences or can they do without'

La mujer se ha ido a dormir- The woman has fallen asleep.
La mujer ha ido a dormir- The woman has gone to sleep.

Dormir- to sleep
Dormirse - to fall asleep

La niña se está riendo.- The little girl is laughing at or about herself(or something or someone else).
La niña está riendo. The little girl is laughing.

reír - to laugh
reirse- to laugh at or about

La nina se esta riendo or la nina esta riendose. You still use the reflexive. La mujer se ha ido a dormir is more certain or concrete . Edward V, and I'm sorry that I could'nt use accents.
