I'm doing an assignment and it asks "Why did you buy new clothes?" and I can't figure out the correct way to translate "I lost weight and needed new clothes."

Well you could use either 'adelgazar' or 'perder peso'

'I lost weight, therefore, I needed to buy new clothes'

'Adelgacé así que necesité comprar ropa nueva.'

'Perdí peso ...

There may be a better way to say this sentence from a native's point of view
