Hello guys how are you today? I was wondering if anyone could help me grasp the following: If conseguir means "to get" (among other things) and lograr means "to achieve" (among other things) and poner means "to put" (among other things) then how do we say "Let's get drunk!"? It's "Vamos a Ponernos borrachos!" So why is poner the word to use? Why not conseguir? Thanks

  • I am not sure, because in other contexts ponerse means to put on. - BellaMargari Oct 14, 2009 flag

conseguir and lograr are commonly used to state things that you achieve or manage to do through some effort or repeated attempts

ponerse is used more as become without any effort.

Se puso enfadado. Se puso colorado.

So, I am saying it it takes no great effort to get drunk (just money, good looks, or generous friends).

  • Well, what about " no conseguiré cambiar" or "no conseguiré ocultarles" I couldn't [become] changed, I couldn't [become] hidden. I always thought of conseguir as to get= to become?? - jeezzle Oct 14, 2009 flag
  • What do you mean without any effort? they take some lifting them pint pots, especially when you have had a few. - kenwilliams Oct 14, 2009 flag
