Hace un año, yo fui a Irlanda para servir la gente. Estuve en la ciudad de Belfast por tres semanas. Fui con la organización se llama Youth for Christ. Yo no estaba sólo pero había diez personas en mi equipo. Cinco eran de Irlanda, cuatro de Estados Unidos, y una de Canadá. Lo menor tenía diecisiete años y la mayor tenía veinte y tres. Durante las tres semanas, llegamos a ser una familia. Nos quedamos en una iglesia y las chicas durmieron en el ático. ¡Era una experiencia muy diferente y nueva para mí!

Odd that you said la mayor, but lo menor ( if you know who the menor refers to [which you do since you gave his age] it is el menor. Lo is used when you don't know specifically who (or what) is the antecedent of the pronoun (you don't know if it is el or la).

• Nice information on the lo/el decision. That's a tough one to understand natively. I suspect he was using lo/la to refer to the sexes of the people he mentioned, but then that means he knows them, so he should use el/ellla. - Stobber Oct 12, 2009
