The truth and myths about Spaniards

Hola! I've been lately very much surprised by certain opinions about Spaniards expressed by persons who were lucky enough to have the opportunity to know this nation a bit better as they spent some time in Spain. Well, to be honest, I am shocked by some of them... First, I'd like to know your opinion about Spaniards. Mind you, I don't wanna be mean or anything like this, I am aware of the fact that every nation has its, so to speak, flaws. So, no worries and go ahead. You can also tell me how Poland is perceived in your country raspberry I don't expect many positive statements when it comes to this country(provided that you've heard about it at all...) Saludos.

As far as I know, I only know 3 Spaniards a little bit, through contact on the Internet.

I think it's safe to say that I adore them all, though maybe I just got lucky.

I am pretty sure that most Spaniards are kind and God fearing people unlike Christopher Colon, Pedro de Alvarado and Hernan Cortez. And, we all know that racism exits in all countries. I admire a judge in Spain- sorry I dont know his name- but he has brought to justice some ugly dictators in Latin America and he is thinking about bringing charges to Mr. George W. Bush and his gang. No disrespect intended.

The arrest was prompted by an extradition request from a Spanish magistrate, Baltasar Garzon, who wants Pinochet in Spain. The magistrate is investigating atrocities committed during the "Dirty Wars" in Latin America during the 1970's and 80's. Spain is one of four European countries that want to bring charges of genocide, torture and terrorism against General Pinochet, for his alleged role in the deaths and disappearances of more than 3,000 people, both Chileans and foreigners.

Compare the Sanish attitude towars a known murder and the Brithish attitude toward the same man. The Brithis allowed Pinochet ot visit their country, ignoring taht he was a killer of innocent people.

In October, a court in London ruled that Pinochet was immune from arrest and prosecution because he's a former head of state. from on line news hour Jim Lehner

In general Spaniards are really friendly and really loud. I am from the United States, and, being from the single most self absorbed country in the universe, I know absolutely nothing about Poland. :/

So when did SpanishDict become a political site??? As an English woman living in Spain amongst the friendliest of Spanish people - I don´t like it. These political responses are not answers to the original question and I am surprised they have not been flaged.

That reminds me - I have enjoyed reading Charlius´blogs on his life in Malaga province - not a million miles from where I live - when I get time I must make some comments and give him some tips on life in this area - and uh hu - I wondered how he would cope with our Andalucian accent! Just wait till they start speaking pure Andaluce - as well as cutting off the beginning and endings of words they frequently speak without using verbs - and has he tried the queing system yet???

The Spaniards when they came to America burned most of the "indians:prayers, songs and poems - Gus Oct 12

Compare the Anglo Saxon attitude toward the "indians and the Spanish attitude towards the same----You be the judge.

The Spaniards took Astecs, Mayas and or Incas as their wifes and formed a home the Americans.

The Anglos just had their way with the females and rejected them as partners and send to europe for women in some cases buying them............................

The Spaniads integrated into the continent while the Anglos killed, the inhabitans of the continent or placed them into jails called Indians reservations. You be the judge................................

The Spaniards didn't exactly conquer the native populations of Central and South America with hugs and kisses, as you make it sound. - jrey0474 Oct 12
The Spaniards were assholes in America, but: what do we have to do with those guys? don't judge people through history, that's a big mistake. Anyway, the Spaniards "mated" with Indians (rather than integration) just because Spanish women were so far away - srovietico Oct 16
I absolutely agree with Jrey. Gus and Sovietico seem to see thru rose-tinted glasses. There are some facts which can't be denied. The same is also with massacres perpetrated in ex-Eastern Poland by the Red Army. Every invasion entails atrocities. - bomberapolac Oct 16
umm... rose-tinted glasses? i should have taken them off when in poland...as far as i saw it seems a nice country ;) - srovietico Oct 19

Soy puertorriqueño, y yo sé que hay algunos latinos de las Americas quien dicen que los "Spaniards" son arrogantes y se sienten superiores de los otros "latinos". No creo mismo, pero le preguntó para algunos opiniones.

A comment on Don Sovietico's post: Yes, do you know that I've heard the same? Yet, I suppose that you're saying this just because you don't like communism. The truth about Spanish communists is that they are so communist that they are always borrowing money from whoever they happen to meet on the way and looks a bit naive to them. Surprisingly enough, however, they just can't do without a servant (in Polish it's "sluga," if you really wanna know), otherwise their flat turns into a big mess and fridge becomes moldy. ¿Puedes creerlo? Besides, I regret to tell you that a "doll" is absolutely a misnomer here.
