Hi there, I am trying to say i couldn't enjoy it because it rained all the time and cannot decide whether to put poder in the preterite or the imperfect. My instinct is saying the imperfect because i didn't fail at this task as such!!

So, no podía disfrutarla porque llovío todo el tiempo rather than no pude disfrutarla etc?

Please help. Can either be right, i know sometimes this is the case.

As requested - i'm referring to Valencia

I would say you are describing your mental state in the past, so it would be the imperfect.

  • Yes that makes sense as there is no actual physical action involved. Many thanks - celton78 Oct 5, 2009 flag

Since you are describing something that happened in an unspecified time in the past, I would think that you would use the imperfect.
