I try to watch "Despierta América" (Univision) or "Levántate (Telemundo)" every day. These shows provide a combination of news and entertainment, along with some cooking segments. I feel that this provides a lot of variety, which in turn helps with my listening skills.
I also watch "Caso Cerrado" (Telemundo) which is helpful because it forces me to listen to the quick pace of every day conversation when plaintiffs and defendants are arguing with each other before a judge.
On a good day, I also watch "Telenoticias Puerto Rico" (Telemundo) which is basically just the evening news broadcast from Puerto Rico.
Any corrections are welcome. I'm trying to practice writing longer, more detailed responses. ![]()
I've been watching Mas Sabe El Diablo for a few months now. I'm usually not much into soap operas, but I like this one pretty well. The plot is pretty intricate, so that the drug addiction of one character isn't just a little subplot, it's actually something the villain of the show uses for blackmail later on. Stuff like that. I guess that's the advantage of a telenovela over an American soap opera, since the show only lasts half a year, they can plan things out in advance to lead up to the big ending.
Before my Spanish was good enough for that, I watched a lot of Plaza Sesamo. That's basically the Mexican version of Sesame Street. Yeah, it's a children's show, but it's also designed specifically to teach words to people who don't speak very well yet. Besides, the Count is still fun when his name is changed to Conde Contar.
Vivo en una ciudad que no tiene muchos canales de televisión en español. ¿Sabe alguien algunos sitios web, como Hulu, con programas en español?
There are some websites with streaming Spanish listed here
I am watching, Destinos, which is a program for learners. It is interesting because it not purely academic. I also watch the local news, not only to help me with Spanish but to see what is considered newsworthy in the Hispanic community.

I can't miss Sabido Gigante...that's a big saturday night thing. Also, I like Dialogo a costa a costa, Tu Tv Informa, Las Paginas de New York Times, which is a lot more interesting than it sounds, and it's in spanish. Las Noticias con Paula Rojas, ect. Don't really do the Desperita America thing anymore, but it's a great way to hear how people really talk. ![]()
Me gusta Casado con hijos, la versión colombiana, porque es fácil de entender. Me caen bien los programas sobre la naturaleza e historia en Galavisión
I'm a beginner, so I watch simple shows like Al Sabor del Chef, Vida Savaje, and various news programs. It is interesting that Primer Impacto includes astrology and pro-wrestling coverage in the news.
- Oh yeah, I forgot Vida Salvaje. Good show. - Jason_Bryant Oct 1, 2009 flag

- You will only find a cooking show with a band in Spanish. :) - lhm27 Oct 1, 2009 flag
Niños Ricos, Pobres Padres- Telemundo
- Hmm. I tried to get into that show, but it seemed kinda overblown. That one couple breaks up and gets back together every week. I also had a little trouble with the star crossed romance that started with rape. - Jason_Bryant Oct 1, 2009 flag
I have been watching Águila Roja on the internet. Someone many moons ago suggested it and I have enjoyed it when I've had the time to devote to it. It is a combination of Zorro and Robin Hood set in Spain of the 17th century.
The only show I really ever watched was Primer Impacto. Our school took a field trip to see Sabado Gigante being filmed, but alas, I didn't go.
What about Betty La Fea?
- Ugly Betty. ;-) - ChamacoMalo Oct 2, 2009 flag
I am into romance and juicy drama lately I have been watching: Mañana es para siempre. Theme song is very pretty and I can pretty much understand most of what is going on. ![]()
- You watch that? My friends watch it like water for chocolate. I've never seen it, but I don't care for soap operas! - ChamacoMalo Oct 2, 2009 flag
