Answer in Spanish please. Do you think that the media creates stereotypes or only guides them? Why?

Stereotypes existed before media as we know it and independently of media. Media reflects existing stereotypes and possibly reinforces them but does not create or guide them.

• I would say that they are propogated at a faster pace and to a wider audience than was true in the past, though. What do you think? - Izanoni1 Sep 28, 2009
• By making them available to a wider audience and by making them them more attractive/disguising them (via games, graphics and other audio visual stimulations) wouldn't you say that they have the ability to take on a life of their own? - Izanoni1 Sep 28, 2009

Por cierto. Los medios de comunicación te guió a este sitio y has reforzado el esteriotipo sobre el estudiante holgazán a causa de eso. En pocas palabras, este foro no está para hacer la tarea. Si tienes tu propia ideas sobre eso entonces compartelas y podemos ayudarte. Pero tienes que intentar hacer tu propia respuesta. Why do you think that stereotypes are only guided by the media

Also are you speaking of a particular media (television, internet, video games, newspapers, books, magazines, etc?)

Los medios de comunicacion solo reportan los acontecimientos........ Ahora, si estas preguntando de los escritores de novelas,,escritores de telenovelas y peliculas,entonces sí possible que ellos empiecen los stereotipos.

I think the media both guides them and even creates new ones! The media is great like that...not really! I know people who think certain things about the native spanish speaking community and its just not true!

Because I know that there must be genuninely nice people in the native spanish speaking community.

Because I have met some from my church! We've had for awhile now mexican-americans from 2 generations that go to our church, and then this guy who moved here from Peru & his American wife and their children.

Then there is also this man who is really into theologically studying his bible & I think he even knows some hebrew and just stuff like that in general, but He just one day married this (their both middle aged) lady who is from Peru! She seems to be really nice!

I don't know if she really knows what is being taught/preached in our church or not but she still comes. She seems really excited that my sister and I are learning spanish.

In my opinion there are going to be good and bad people in every race! The media will still only focus on the bad though!

I know not everyone believes in Christianity,but Jesus died for the world not just white people or just for afraican americans or whatever race.

He died for everyone of us! Its up to us are we going to accept that or are we going to stick to a certain ''culture'' or stereotype.

I've had to show some of my family this even though they are Christians full gospel Christians that the media is just lying to them again! You know I had to give them a reality check so to speak.

My husband watched Shakira concerts and Selena's last concert with me and I think that he is seeing that "hispanics" aren't just what the news protrays.

So those are my thoughts on the matter!
