I watch movies, read books and l am currently listening to an audiobook in Spanish. I've posted movies and books in the Culture and Travel section. If you can find them, private message me.

  • I searched and found some of your posts. May I still private message you with questions. - justoffnorma Sep 27, 2009 flag

My favourite Spanish movies are:

El Laberinto del Fauno, Rec, y Abre los Ojos.

in that order.

For books, Isabelle Allende is a fairly easy read and has some great books.

  • La casa de los espíritus is one of my favorites by Allende. - justoffnorma Sep 27, 2009 flag
  • Heyy, the first 2 are my movies! Nice taste. - Charlius Sep 27, 2009 flag
  • Ditto, lover Laberinto and Rec. Best zombie movie ever I think, partially because of how real it felt. - Grysham Sep 28, 2009 flag

Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits is a wonderful read. Also, try Laura Esquivel's Like Water For Chocolate. These are both excellent books which are heavily influenced by Spanish culture. You can also find the Harry Potter series in Spanish; I have just finished reading El Prisionero de Azkaban myself!

  • Like Water For Chocolate is also a great movie in Spanish. - ocbizlaw Sep 28, 2009 flag

Yes, Pan's Labyrinth, or El Laberinto del Fauno is originally a Spanish movie. However, it does contain occasional vulgarity.

  • Well if you're worried about that there is also the extremely graphic violence... - morphine Sep 27, 2009 flag

If you've got cable, you might want to check for Spanish channels. You never know how much you'll find.

I recently visited my sister and found out that she has several Spanish language channels. One is a channel in the 800s about China. Chinese cooking shows, Chinese history shows, Chinese geography shows, all in Spanish.

That was neat for awhile, but I was glad to come home and watch Telemundo again. It has some shows I like.

The movie's I've watched and I've liked are mostly really old though XD. But if you're interested, some good movies to watch are "The Spirit of the Beehive" (a very metaphorical movie, wouldn't suggest it if you like to watch action packed movies/movies with obvious plotlines), I've actually seen "Gisaku" for the heck of it, but it's basically a children's movie that happens to be in Spanish. My favorite movie would probably be the "Buena Vista Social Club." The movie isn't all in Spanish, and it has subtitles, so if you're looking for a movie and you're just beginning to learn Spanish, it's a good place to start. It can easily be found on YouTube too!~ (And the great music is an extra plus~) tongue wink

Hope that helps~

For learning Spanish, I like kid's movies on DVD where I can switch to Spanish, with or without English subtitles - like "Lilo and Stich", I listen and try to understand and watch the subtitles if I need hints. Almost all the mjor DVDs have the Spanish options.
