It is for me, whether I use it from home or from work. There is a long delay for pages to load.

Ian...you can do the same as I suggested to that gentleman above, and that might speed you up a bit. People should make a habit of doing those things anyway, as you never know what you have lurking around in your computer, what's running in the background, if it's communicating with something it really doesn't need to be, etc. One of my big tricks before we got new computers was I'd go into Task Manager, look into the "process" tab, and shut down everything I wasn't using. Like the communication to the printer, for example. I almost never print anything. I'd shut down all non-essential processes. If you have RSS feeds coming to you, they are taking up space. If you are a tweeter, if you are on facebook, myspace, etc, you may be on right now and not know it. Shut it down. Close out your mail, etc. Look at your add-ons. Computers are notorius for running unnecessary add-ons, like Adobe. You don't need Adobe plugged in all the time. All these things rob your computer of power and speed. Sorry for the long winded answer! wink

I checked this site out on some of these sites that will tell you about other sites, and they say it's on the slow side. We have FiOS, so I don't notice it at home. At work, I notice it big time. I don't have any tricks for you, other than to delete you surfing history, clear you cache, and cookies. That will run it faster for you. If you are going to be here for a while, which some of us are, you should periodically clear your cache and cookies. For whatever reason, the cookies at this site have a tendancy to act up, and sometimes if you are using Google Chrome, you can't even connect. I come throught IE8. I don't even bother with using Chrome, because I don't want to delete everything else I do with it. wink

  • At most, clear your cache once -before- using the site. The cache stores local copies of things like images to speed up surfing by not having to download them each time. If you clear it, you will have to download them all over agin. - AnnoLoki Sep 27, 2009 flag

I bet some people in the world are having problems but probably not because of this site but because thay have slow internet connections like me. I have broadband "banda ancha" but it is only 256k and I call it "narrowband" "banda estrecha".

It's not the fastest site in the world, but it's not that unreasonable. I find Facebook to be FAR slower. And Yahoo too.

I've never had any problems from here (Richmond, VA...using high-speed Internet access from home from Comcast cable connection.) I used to live in upstate NY, and never had problems from there either. Sometimes I'm using Internet Explorer 8.0 and sometimes Firefox 3.5.3 (both on PCs). Both seem to do just fine with the site.

It's not a terribly well optimised site, and it's written in PHP (a horrible horrible horrible language with a low bar of entry meaning anyone can start writing websites with it without knowing a lot of important things) ... it has lots of cookies which makes local caching of images etc más difícil, but you can check your browser settings to make sure you're caching what you can to speed it up.

For internet explorer, this is doing by clicking the Tools menu (press alt+T if you can't see it) and selecting Internet Options. Click the Settings button under Browsing History, and set Check for newer versions of stored pages to Automatically. Press Okay, and Okay again.

If that doesn't help you can try setting it to "Everytime I start internet explorer" instead of "Automatically". You will likely want to put this back to "Automatically" or "Every Time" when you are done here, so you don't hit problems elsewhere on the net seeing old versions of pages.

Don't delete your cache; this is used to speed up surfing by keeping local copies of files instead of having to download them.

I deleted my cookies and cache and all that, and I still can't get the site at work, it says something about files being too big. Odd.

I run a program called "Advanced System Care" (download it for free - search for it on Google) on a regular basis - it is supposed to "clean up" your computer and improve performance.

Regular maintenance is key, to include anti-virus, malware, adware scans, etc. Keep your computer free of useless junk like temp files and programs you no longer use. My internet connection is Verizon broadband and I have no problems with this site. My OS is Vista, Chrome browser.
