1) The Spanish suffix -oso is equivalent to the English suffix -nous.

e.g. luminoso is the equivalent of luminous in English.

2) The Spanish suffix -dad is equivalent to the English suffix -ness.

e.g. bondad is the equivalent of kindness in English.

  • suffix dad in Spanish is more like TY in English - Ciudad City Calidad Quality etc etc - ian-hill Sep 24, 2009 flag
  • There is no translation for the suffix "ness". Example: clever-cleverness (inteligente-inteligencia) - nila45 Sep 24, 2009 flag

"oso" is a Spanish suffix that can become a noun in an adjective.

Example: pena-penoso, veneno-venenoso

"ness" is an English suffix that can become an adjective in a noun.

Example: clever-cleverness

As you can see, it is the opposite of "ness".

  • "...that changes a noun into an adjective" "...that makes an adjective a noun" " that turns a noun into an adjective " "..that can become a noun in an adjective " is nonsensical. - qfreed Sep 24, 2009 flag
