Any ideas upon this or further explaination?

más=more (adverb) (occasionally a noun)

mas=but (conjunction)

However, under the newer spelling rules, the accent mark can be omitted unless needed to avoid confusion so mas may be más. You have to go by context or just ignore the new rule and use the accent mark when you mean more, like I do.
