ASK A QUESTION Juanes concert in Cuba
Some people criticize the Juanes concert, but is it right that Juanes do a concert for the peace in Cuba? Let us remember that Cuba is a country without freedom . The people are waiting for Juanes to say something about freedom in Cuba. what do you think about the Juanes concert?

Bueno...I've been a big fan of Juanes since back in the day when he did a song with Nelly Futado back before she was hella famous. Such a question has some many sides, it's not even close to funny. Sure, the people of Cuba don't have freedom, the the fault of this lies with the government, not the people. Sure, the people don't raise up against it, but still this lies with the government, not the people. So...should the people be deprived a good concert because Fidel is a jerk? Remember also, the rest of the spanish speaking world has good ties with Cuba, as well does Canada. Also, don't forget your history...the reason that China and the United States today have good relations all started with a simple Ping Pong game. ![]()

It's hard to tell from you comment whether you are trying to be sarcastic or if you (like so many people living in America) are simply ignorant about what influences/determines political policy. The relationship between America and China is determined (almost entirely) by two considerations: 1) China has a a fairly powerful military presence/capability and 2) (more importantly) China is the single largest holder of American debt instruments. If they wished to do so (and if they were unconcerned about the effect on their own economy) they could completely destroy the American economy (but [a very big "but"], they would probably destroy their own economy in the process.
For me this is a great deception.

- My opinion Zoltan is that any cultural interaction is beneficial - people are not fooled and they can have some fun from such a concert. - ian-hill Sep 21, 2009 flag

The thaw in Chinese-American relations did in fact, begin with a Ping Pong game. Know your history. Look up "Ping Pong Diplomatics."
Yea, what about China? Do american artists go over to China to throw concerts? I actually don't know. But what happens in that case then? Just because it's covered up with capitalism doesn't mean the Chinese still don't enjoy the freedoms of democracy.

- Hmm, how come the orchestra didn't receive any flack for that like Juanes did? - Charlius Sep 21, 2009 flag
- I have no idea - they seemed to have received praise for their initiative. - ian-hill Sep 22, 2009 flag
