Several years ago, I ate two tamales from Toluca and still wasn't satisfied, but made me thirsty so much. Churros (mmm, delicioso) in a small town is not recommended to enjoy because my youngest brother got a stomach while eating at the mall (centro comercial) at Queretaro. At Salvatierra, the churros made me so hungry. At Tarimoro, (again about the churros) made me so thirsty, I drink water (not recommeded, but Coca-Cola or milk is a must). Puebla (the city/capital) is known to poison tourist and their own residents. Pork products must be avoided at all cost, lucky my youngest brother found a worm on the chorizo. Ten cuidados todos de SpanishDict...

I have never had any bad/spoiled food in Mexico. I have eaten lots of varieties of fish, octapuss, eel, shrimp, clams, osters, beef, lamb, beef tongue, pork, etc. Lots of fruits and veggies. Not to eat "carnitas" (deep fried pork) would be a shame.

  • Pork is a big no-no, it will cause worm turmor, which the worms are removed, the patient lost his/her entire memory. - PapasMTZ Sep 15, 2009 flag

hmmm, I cannot think of anything to avoid here in Spain. I don't personally like oysters, but I think all our food is recommendable.

  • Hello Heidita: This made me remember one of my best meals is Spain. It was with a large group of Gypsies on the beach south of Tarragona. What wonderful food -- I slept in their camp on the beach that night. - Daniel Sep 15, 2009 flag

People aren't dropping over dead from eating food in Mexico! You have the same anatomy as everyone else in Mexico, Spain, France, Andorra, Russia and China! However, your body may not be used to the food there or the water. The worst that will happend to you is you will get a case of the runs, as your body is adjusting, and after that you can eat what you wish. Now...if feel the overwhelming need to eat peppers and other hot things that the natives warn you about....wink

  • John, I don't know about the rest of Mexico, but in Yucatan, the people who live there don't drink the tap water. They use it for washing, and buy water in large bottles to drink. Including people with few resources. So there might be cause for caution - Valerie Sep 15, 2009 flag
  • However, eating those hot cheetos will cause diarrhea. - PapasMTZ Sep 15, 2009 flag

I've visited the Yucatan and Oaxaca and eaten many different foods. I've never had a single problem. However, like Valerie says "Don't drink the water!"

When I was a child, I return to Texas by car and stop at McDonalds (TX) for th e McNuggets and Coca-Cola. Guess what happen? I got sick by eating McDonalds McNuggets, Coke is not a big help, it made it worst, until I drank Dasani Water, that felt me better. However, the Cokes in Mexico are save to drink. If all of you are wondering (might go off topic) Mexico has: Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, 7-Up, Manzanita Sol, Sidral, Jarritos, Dr. Pepper (about time! My favorite coke while growing up.) But don't drink too much coke while visiting Guerrero, so hot over there, 100 plus degrees!

I have travelled from the southern tip of Texas to Guatamala by car and have eaten all along the way. Never once did I get sick. I did however have a culinary experience I will never forget.

  • I agree, I drive in Mexico several times a year. Some of the small shacks on the side of the road in the middle of no-where can have some killer food. - Daniel Sep 15, 2009 flag
  • That happens to be how I had the best breakfast ever. - Seitheach Sep 15, 2009 flag
