¿Adónde se fue?

1 Vote

se is the reflexive.... it's (It) a subject and not an object. like [yo] lo envio. I is the subject and the verb is conjugated to match the subject but lo is the object- what do I send?

Adonde se fue... talks about "it" as the subject. Se fue= it went. Fue is conjugated in the third person. Lo is not a subject, it's an object. Donde lo puse? (where did I put it?) takes "lo" because then "it" is an object and "I" is the subject. Did that help or confuse you more?

  • I guess I'm confused as to why it has to be irse and not ir for "it went". How do I know which to use, ir or irse? Thanks in advance! - schub Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • Still thinking about this.... voy al parque (I go to the store). fui al parque ( I went to the store). Se fue al parque (He went to the store?) - schub Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • Got it now! Thanks for your help! - schub Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • Didn't know parque meant store, always thought it meant park as in a walk through the park. - kenwilliams Sep 17, 2009 flag

This reply is specifically for "schub" who wondered if the verb should be "ir" or "irse".

Schub, see This earlier post/thread that discusees differences between:

"ir" (in broad general terms thought to mean "to go" but with a specific destination in mind"), and the other choice

"irse" (in broad general terms thought to men "to go away" without a specific destination)

In particular, pay attention to Lazarus1907's reply in the referenced earlier posting.

Recuerdos/Best Wishes,

Y, ahora, tengo que irme,

Moe

  • Thanks so much! I knew "to go" and "to go away", but didn't know about the specific desitination part. This clears it up for me! Thanks for the help! - schub Sep 17, 2009 flag

Dondé se fue.

  • I think you want IR in the third person, don't you? "Fue". ¿Sí? - Goyo Sep 15, 2009 flag
  • Yes, a typo or a brain freeze. Thanks. - ocbizlaw Sep 15, 2009 flag

Which is correct to use when talking to a group of children for stand up, de pie or levántense? And for sit down, sentarse or síentense?

Why is it ¿Adónde se fue? and not ¿Adónde lo fue?

  • I belive it's becaue they are using the "irse" verb. - --Mariana-- Sep 17, 2009 flag

Which is correct to use when talking to a group of children for stand up, de pie or levántense? And for sit down, sentarse or síentense?

The correct ones bolded. In Spain we would use: Sentaros/sentaos

These are vulgarismos, however very frequently used in Spain and elsewhere.

Usualmente, oigo esto usado reflexifamente ... yo me voy ... quiero que te vayas ... o en este caso, adonde se fue?
