The word "will" does not exist in Spanish. It is a modal word and we use it in English to make the simple future (among other uses) Spanish changes the verb in question to make it future. Example "I will eat soon" "Comeré pronto"

text to separate boxes

there is no translation for will

I understand your intention, but how do you justify such statements without qualifying your remarks? (in your context)

will

  • Bang on. I think people don't pay a huge amount of attention to what questions actually say, and respond based on the assumtion that the question is a stupid one :-/ - AnnoLoki Sep 14, 2009 flag
  • I did NOt say there is NO translation of will. Confusid, the poster, was obviously refering to will as a modal. - ian-hill Sep 17, 2009 flag

You say it either by conjugating the verb to its future-indicative tense (you can use the conjugation tool, http://www.spanishdict.com/conjugate) or you could change "I will do something" to "I am going to do something" which you'd do by saying "voy a ..." etc.

Alex - Lovat - I made NO assumption that the question was stupid. Quentin - what more qualification of my remarks do you want? The English modal words do NOT exist in Spanish . That is why "The dictionary won't give me a straight answer!" I think both of you should have read what I wrote with more care. Often Spanish speakers approach English Modals as if they are verbs and get into all sports of trouble.

  • Perhaps you should read the question with more care. He said nothing of modal use. That was an assumption on your part. If you are going to make an assumption you should so state it. (and I do agree with your assumption) rather than make gerneral - qfreed Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • statements that are only true under the assumed conditions. - qfreed Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • I really have no clue about the distinction that they are making, but based on the example given from the OP "they will love us?" I thought Ian made no assumptions about the question the OP had posed. - Fredbong Sep 17, 2009 flag
  • Thank you Fredborg - that is how I saw it. - ian-hill Sep 17, 2009 flag
