parfait is a french word, is a dessert made with custard, generally with coffee flavor.

But, it is french, not spanish.

Like a adj. the meaning is: perfect.

I checked in 3 different English to Spanish Dictionary and in one Spanish only dictionary. Parfait did not appear in any of them.

In SpanishDict.com, if you click an a word, a small window opens translating it to the other language. Where the SpanishDict.com dictionary does not have a translation, it just shows the same thing in both languages. The answer obtained in this way is truly suspect.

If the word "parfait" is entered int the dictionary by opening the search window in the dictionary tab, no result is obtained. The word is not in our dictionary.

As a curiousity, I tried one on-line translater to convert "parfait" from French to Spanish. That also yielded no result.

I "Googled" the words "parfait Spanish" and got a couple of results as follows:

parfait = postre de helado con salsa de frutas

parfait = postre elaborado con frutas y helado

For all of that, I would not be willing to say whether or not the word is translated from the original French to a different Spanish word. I'd bet that just as the word has been anglicized and incorporated into English, Spanish speakers would still say and understand "parfait".

  • Why are you dragging the English into this? Can't Spanish adopt French words without waiting to see if we do? Quit using a Spanish/English dictionary and just use a Spanish one and see if it uses parfait. - qfreed Sep 12, 2009 flag
  • Q - I think you missed line 1 of my reply: "I checked in ... one Spanish only dictionary. Parfait did not appear..." - Moe Sep 12, 2009 flag
  • Q - I think you have misconstrued my words used in the last paragraph of my reply. - Moe Sep 12, 2009 flag
