  • Please let me remind you that proper capitalization and punctuation are mandatory here on the forum; we have members learning English and don't want to confuse them with improper English. - --Mariana-- Sep 10, 2009 flag

I have a few Spanish speaking friends who I speak to almost everyday. They help me out if I need to know something. They help me learn new words. I recommend having a native speaker friend who can help you, or even a person who is also learning this language can help you.

My wife is a native speaker. I read books to her out loud and when I don't know a word she helps me out and she corrects my pronunciation. We are reading Cien Años De Soledad right now.

Speak spanish to yourself. Label common every day items in spanish.

For instance, In my garden, I planted letuce, tomatos, carots and potatoes.

En mi jardin, plantado lechuga, tamate, zanaorias, y papas.

When I cook, I use a sarten and a cuenco.

When I wake up, me despierto, levantarme, y ducharme.

When you meet Spanish speakers, greet them in Spanish.

When you look for ways, you will find them.

Lots of luck. Mucho suerte

As coolclay suggests, try to get as close to immersion in español as possible, by making just about everything in your environment and your interactions in Spanish. Shop at stores where Spanish-speakers frequent. Start out just listening and once you start to get an "ear" for Spanish, make attempts to speak with them. If you are just starting out and your Spanish is still new, you may find hispanoparlantes trying to speak English / inglés to you, instead.

Change computer browsers, this SpanishDict, email, etc. into their Spanish counterparts.

Buy products aimed the Hispanic consumers/buyers; they may have wording or instructions in Spanish.

Keep practicing!
