I am trying to communicate to a Spanish speaking student that they need to follow up on letters already sent to doctors who could be expert witnesses in a case. I see that the closest translation seems to be "hacer un seguimiento de" but could I say, for example "necessitamos hacer un seguimiento con los doctores que contactaron ya." for "we need to follow up with the doctors who we have already contacted."

Would it be Dar seguida?

  • "Dar seguimiento o hacer seguimiento" , both are correct - RicardoP Sep 9, 2009 flag

Would it be "...con los doctores que ya se contactaron. (passive) or ...con los doctores que ya se han contactados.

I like Ricardo-Pati's answer best, however:

"con los doctores previamente contactados".

it is: "necesitamos dar seguimiento con los doctores que se contactaron"

What exactly is follow up? To contact? Who is they here

Hacer un seguimiento de qué? to follow up, if this is the word, what exactly?

Don't you have to love confusion.¿!?¡

Once again I consulted my "Big Fat" Span/Eng Eng/Span Dictionary (HarperCollins 7th Edition, 2003) where I found these two items:

Follow-up letter - una carta recordatoria

and

Follow-up (phone) call - (Telec) una llamada de reiteratión

Also see the SpanishDict.com dictionary entry about mid-page under "Follow-up" at this URL:

Given all the choices offerred in this posting, is there anyone willing to offer a definitive answer so we can "vote up" the one or more correct answer(s)?

I think it is to ask for a reply.

A reply? For what?

Hacer un seguimiento means to follow up on something: an illness for example.

But here? what exactly are they following up on?

If it is a reply, hacer un seguimiento is not the correct term.

  • It's not clear form the original question. it could mean "another letter" because the first one wans't answered or because there are additional points that need clarification. - samdie Sep 9, 2009 flag
