For any kind o meaningful translation to be attached to it you need to provide, at least, the entire sentence. If you're only looking for a word for word translation try the translator.

poner/ponerse can take on all kinds of meanings.

poder/not poner? Well, that changes things.

In that case I think the sentence is saying that laziness overpowered me.

Look at this link using poder for "overpower"

overpower

it took ten guards to overpower him

"Tenia que haberme esforzado durante el curso, la pereza me pudo." is the whole sentence (I get the first part though, that he should have worked harder during the last school year). The context is talking with a friend about university, he'd done poorly last year, hopes to do better this year. It seems like a saying, and it's peninsular Spanish, maybe Andalucian. Might be more common as "la pereza me puede"?

It's poder though, not poner smile

thanks!

The laziness came to me.

I got lazy/I was lazy"?

Bueno, ahora lo entiendo. Muchisimas gracias
