Hi. Would appreciate some help on how to say "grand opening."

Thank you. I saw that too when I used the phrase dictionary here. But, as with you, it seemed the word "inauguracion" was too formal. Still, thanks for input.

One term used, but perhaps it's too formal:

inaugaración

it would be more like when they dedicated the plaque on a new building, but I have seen it used for "grand opening"

I looked in my "Big Fat" Span/Eng & Eng/Span dictionary

(HarperCollins - 7th Edition - 2003).
My "Big Fat" book suggests:

Grand opening = Apertura solemne

(Apertura is feminine so since "La apertura" is awkward, then "El Apertura solemne")

To an English speaking ear, the use of "solemne" may still sound somewhat formal, but,

"It's in the book" smile.
