When I registered, several questions were asked that I assumed were required. I don't want personal info available on my public profile. How do I remove available/shown information such as my birthdate?

  • Since your user name is cleary feminine you needn't display gender, but I would always urge people to display gender and native language so that we can answer their questions properly. - qfreed Sep 1, 2009 flag

Go back to your profile and you'll see (on the left hand side) a link to "edit my profile." You can leave blank what you don't want displayed.

To any spanishdict administrator that´s out there, I suggest the birthday no longer be required or at least be able to hide it.

I think it's helpful to have info such as age, gender, level of Spanish/English in our profiles. It gives me a better idea of who I'm talking to.

Level of English/Spanish are obviously relevant to interpreting and responding to questions (and should, I think be required). The question of gender has some relevance (at least for Spanish) because of pronoun/adjective choices. The case for age is even less clear. While it is often true that making reference to events of 30-40 years ago is not likely to resonate with someone who is 13/14 years old, this is not a question of misinformation but of unrecognized references. This needs to be weighed against the possible impact of someone thinking, this is the opinion of "some wet-behind-the-ears teenager" or "some old fa*t with one foot in the grave" (which are, indeed, possible thoughts/reactions but less likely, I suspect, to affect the responses posted).
