In some cultures it is uesd as he explains. This word is also used in a lovers relationship. Althoug mija is literally my daughter, in some spanish speaking regions they use this word to describe females in a respectful way or a sexual way it all depends on the means of the words spoken from the person who said it. In this case I find it respectful.
