Question

Person says in Spanish,"Por favor espera mientras lo transfiero a..."

I think that this trying to make the phrase reflexsive, but it does not translate in my mind. What is a better way to say it? Is transferir that right verb? The sentance means, "wait while I transfer your call to..."

There is nothing reflexive here. The way it is written, it would be:

• Please wait, while I put him through to...

where "lo" means "him" ("a él"), the direct object.

Now, If they meant to say "while I put you through to...", the sentence is mixing informal (espera) and formal Spanish ("lo pongo") in a very bizarre way. "Lo" would remain the direct object, in any case.

Hard to tell without a context, but it is very unlikely, as "a call" is "la llamada", a feminine word.

The phrase means "please wait while i transfer you to..."

"Lo" is a more respectful way to treat someone instead of "te".

Informal: Por favor espera mientras te transfiero. Formal: Por favor espere mientras lo transfiero.

Other formal ways to rephrase the same idea is:

Por favor espere usted mientras le transfiero. (this one would be the most correct way to say it. Or,

Por favor espere usted mientras lo transfiero.

If you say "esperate mientras te transfiero" it would be highly informal.

I am confused by what makes you think that your speaker is trying to use some reflexive pronoun.

I think rather that "lo" is not at all reflexive, but rather refers to the call that your speaker wishes to transfer. Lo is "it", the call.

The original phrase that was translated is," Please hold while I connect your call to..." I am not saying I like this translation at all. I would probably said something like,"Por Favor espera mientras tranfiero su llamada a..." Or something like that.
