I came across these two words and wanted to know what the main difference between them. I know that golpear means to hit, or to bang (on a door for example), to punch and pelearse means to fight as well (is it just in a quarrel or...). smile

HI Jason, I think the main difference is that pelearse can be fighting with words or fists. Golpearse can only be with fists.

Quite different, actually:

Pelearse: applied to two or more people, to use physical force or angry words against one another.

Golpear: to hit violently one part of the body or any object against another one, normally repeatedly. One object can also accidentally "golpear" another; no human intervention is required.

"Golpearse" would be the reciprocal, ie. they bangs/hits/strikes/ beats each other (or one another).

Golpearse can only be with fists.

Golpearse can be done even with cucumbers, if you wish. wink
