HACER UNA PREGUNTA Bilingual News - Repost.
I am reposting as I only got two replies. Things move down the Board very quickly here.
Between us we must be able to find a solution;_
I have spent a long time looking for news is Spanish and English, on the web, in a side by side format.
I found this http://www.dosmundos.com but it is not too easy to read, and I found this where stories are in English and Spanish but not side by side, http://news.eltecolote.org/news
Can anyone find anything better ?
Does anyone have a bilingual newspaper in their town ? Anyone from Kansas or Los Angeles
Thank you

The reason that you haven't received many replies is probably because there aren't many (if any) of what you are asking about. A bilingual newspaper would only be interesting to a language student. Most people would either prefer to read the newspaper entirely in English or entirely in Spanish, so locations with high Spanish/English population usually produce an edition in English and an edition in Spanish, each being circulated in respective neighborhoods. To provide a bilingual edition with side by side translations would be wasteful to 95% of the readers as they would only read either the English side or the Spanish side.
Also, side by side translations are only useful to intermediate or advanced language students. A good translation in never a word for word translation and usually the syntax or verb selection is no where close to one another. A beginner would be learning words in the correct context and then try to use them in the wrong context or he would be not able to follow the conversation at all. If I know the word "querer" and the translator uses preferir or desear I will not know what he is saying. If I notice that preferir can mean querer (by reading the translation as "want"), I might later try to you preferir to say "te prefiero" where I wanted to say "te quiero" (I love you). There is a reason that you don't see a lot of side by side texts offered in comparison to the number of texts available in either language (not both).
Aside: under the newer system you do not need to re-post a topic. Just add a comment and the post will return to the head of the list.
- Are you talking about adding a pointless comment just to "bump" your thread up! I've wanted to do that at times, b/c it seemed some of my questions were getting lost, but I feel it would seem selfish. - Nick-Cortina 24 de Ago, 2009 marcar

- I feel bad, too, that the post was moved away from the front page so fast. I agree with Q that there just isn't much out there to find (I searched). - --Mariana-- 25 de Ago, 2009 marcar
I found something - it is a subscription so not allowed to post here - but if anyone is interested and sends me a private message I will let you know.
- Fabulous...I'm so glad your search paid off! - --Mariana-- 1 de Sep, 2009 marcar
