  • Your Welcome :) note that cabron can be used for "name calling" too... but it is not always bad. - NikkiRivera 21 de Ago, 2009 marcar
  • Cabron/a does not necessarily mean "bastard" or "b***h." It depends on the context. It can also mean someone is really adept at something. But it's definitely slang, I would only use it with friends. - gabachacurio 22 de Jul, 2011 marcar

I have heard people say 'macanudo' and 'genial' when referring to something as 'cool'.

You might wish to do lesson 4.10 of the Learn Spanish series. It covers flower names and intonation.

It explains aguda, grave , esdrújula, and sobresdrújulas.

Once you understand the basic rules of intonation the the rules for appending pronouns is simple.

You must maintain the stress in the word where it was before you appended the pronouns.

Di (tell) stress obviously on the i since it is the only vowel (grave).

Dime (tell me) no accent needed since the stress is still on the i. (grave)

Dímelo (tell it to me) you must add an accent mark to maintain the stress on the i, if you hadn't placed an accent mark, then the stress would have moved to the e. (grave); now the word is esdrújula.

Estoy trayendo.. (I am bringing)... the accent is on the e (grave).

Estoy trayéndolo (I am bringing it) needs an accent to keep the stress on the e or it would move to the o (grave), now the word is esdrújula

Estoy trayéndoselo (I am bringing it to you) needs an accent to maintain stress on the 1st e or it would move to the 2nd e (grave); now the word is sobresdrújula.

Quiero saber las palabras que no son ofensivas. La palabra "chido" es ofensiva o no?

  • Nikkis told you that cabrón was okay. It's not. It's calling someone a "bastard," which is offensive in any language. - --Mariana-- 21 de Ago, 2009 marcar
  • You simply have to look the word up in the dictionary, and then decide if you want to use it. - --Mariana-- 21 de Ago, 2009 marcar
  • "chido" is not offensive. it simply means "great" or "cool" - LAtINaPunKRO 21 de Ago, 2009 marcar

"que padre" can also be said "que padrisimo"

another one that means the same is "que chido/a" and another one is "que barbaro" which literally means "how barbaric" "que barbaro" can also annotate something is really bad or terrible, so you have to be careful in its usage as to whether its refering to something being good or bad. (que bien, how great/ que malo, how bad).

Marianne-

I said that chido was okay.... and that cab*ón and different meanings....it all depends on how you use it. It is not an insult 100 percent of the time.

Just like I could say "that car is the s**t" and that is not an insult....

and then I could say "hey, you are a piece of s**t" and well.... you see what I am saying?

so you could say ____ está cab*ón....

and that means that whatever you are talking about is cool/ sweet.

Cabrón can have various other meanings depending on the Spanish speaking country.

cuckold, brothel keeper, pimp, gay, stupid berk.

I have unflagged the post because I think the word just said on its own is not offensive. However if you were to say to another member "eres un c****n, then that would be offensive.

  • yeah... I dont know if anyone saw my comment... i said it could have been bad.... but I mean here in mexico you hear that would a lot and in a non offensive way. - NikkiRivera 22 de Ago, 2009 marcar

in chilean spanish, if you ever come down south, you can say "bakan" when you want to say cool, but no other countries really use it (you might get away with it in argentina too) so i dont know how much that helps.
