I need to hear someone speak so I can practice speaking Spanish. I have speakers and a microphone but I don't have a camera. Will I be able to communicate with people even though they can't see me or I them. Please help!

If you are using Skype (which is a free program) you can make and receive calls with just your speakers and a microphone...you don't need video.

I take online Spanish lessons once a week and I use a microphone/earphone headset without a web cam.

Are you talking about in a chat room? Using an instant messenger? Direct communication between computers ? videoconferencing?

In most of those you can audio communicate even if you don't use the video. A lot of people use web cameras just because most have a built in mike. For what you want to do I would suggest a headset.

I have a headset and web camera and when I use them I usually turn the video off anyway. You can only stare at someone's face for so long.

Do you mean in the SpanishDict videochat? Yes. You can chat with headphones (or speakers) and a microphone, and it works perfectly well without a camera. smile

Marianne, I appreciate your answer. I have never heard of Skype but I am going to find out about it. I guess you can tell, I don't know alot about what you can do on a computer! All I know is I wish to be able to speak Spanish fluently.

Thank you, Marianne

Hi gfreed, Of all the things you mentioned, it would be mostly the chat room. It all sounds interesting. I am so glad you answered-you helped me a lot. Thank you so much!

Hi Valerie, Yes, I do mean the SpanishDict video chat. I will be using the video link on this site. I hope there are people that will talk to me and I hope they will be patient. I am a little unsure of myself but want to learn the Spanish language, fluently. Thank you for your answer. mac2
